Phillips County Health Systems (PCHS) is pleased to announce that Ed Duensing, APRN, FNP-C, has joined the Emergency Department provider team. With more than 30 years of healthcare experience, Ed brings a deep commitment to rural communities and extensive knowledge in emergency care.

A lifelong learner, Ed began his healthcare journey in 1990 as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) while still a senior in high school. He continued in that role until 1994, when he advanced to a paramedic, serving in Topeka until 1999.

Ed earned his Associate of Arts and Associate of Applied Science degrees from Hutchinson Community College in 1994, followed by a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baker University in 2000. He later pursued nursing, earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Washburn University in 2003 and serving as a Registered Nurse for more than 15 years.

In 2019, Ed completed his Master of Science in Nursing through Walden University, becoming an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). His experience as a provider includes primary care, walk-in and urgent care, and emergency medicine—all within rural healthcare settings. He is currently furthering his education by pursuing a Post-Master’s Certificate in Primary Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Ed’s passion for healthcare began at an early age. “I became interested in the medical field when I lived just a block from the EMS station in Belleville,” he shared. “I remember going out to the porch every time I heard the ambulance sirens and watching it pass.” He added with a smile, “I also have to credit ‘Johnny’ and ‘Roy’ from the TV show Emergency! for helping inspire my career path.”

Rooted in small-town values, Ed appreciates the close connections found in rural communities. “I enjoy rural America because the communities feel like a small family,” he said. “The opportunity in Phillipsburg allows me to serve in the Emergency Department while continuing to care for patients at my clinic in Neodesha.” With his signature sense of humor, Ed also noted that having a golf course just across the highway from the hospital didn’t hurt in his decision to join PCHS.

Ed and his wife, Amy, have been married for over 30 years and have two adult children. Their son is a software engineer in Kansas City, and their daughter is an ICU nurse currently pursuing her Doctorate as a Nurse Practitioner, something Ed jokes is her way of “one-upping” him.

In his spare time, Ed owns and operates Advanced Practice Primary Care Services, LLC in Neodesha. He enjoys spending time with family, camping, traveling, fishing, golfing, attending Kansas City Chiefs games as a season ticket holder, and, as he humorously adds, “sleeping when I can.”

“Ed’s rural roots and extensive emergency care experience, bundled with his sense of humor, make him a great fit for our team and community.” Cassie Taylor, Marketing & Recruiting Manager, expressed. “He brings knowledge, compassion, and will help us continue to provide high-quality care close to home.”

The Phillips County Health Systems Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing immediate care for emergencies and urgent health needs.

Transparency in Coverage Rule

Phillips County Health Systems complies with applicable Federal civil rights laws. Phillips County Health Systems does not discriminate, exclude, or treat individuals differently on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

The Department of Health and Human Services’, Transparency in Coverage Rule, requires health plans to create a member-facing price comparison tool and post publicly available machine-readable files. These files must be updated monthly and include in-network negotiated payment rates and historical out-of-network charges for covered items and services, including prescription drugs.  The purpose of this Rule is to help you know the cost of your healthcare before receiving the care.

No one will be denied access to service due to the inability to pay. All applications for sliding fee schedules and discounts will be accepted. Eligibility is determined by family size and income.   Price Transparency
